Domaine des Lucioles: A Place of Liberty
A chat with Alsace-born Jura vigneron Jordan Rudloff, who, together with his partner Elodie Heckenmayer, produces wine - and honey! - as Domaine des Lucioles.
Founded in 2021, Domaine des Lucioles is the wine and honey-making project of Alsace-born engineers Jordan Rudloff and Elodie Heckenmayer. The couple farm (organically, of course) 90 ares of vineyards, mostly old vineyards situated within two kilometers of their home in Frontenay. This year they will plant another 70 ares.
Formerly based in Paris - where both still maintain jobs today - the couple fell hard for Jura natural wines in 2015, following a memorable series of meals at Haut Jura restaurant L’Anversis (which nowadays remains a wine destination under new ownership). Soon after, Rudloff began a BPREA program at the Beaune viticultural school, and pursued internships first in Cahors (at Domaine de la Calmette) and later in the Jura, with François Rousset-Martin and Etienne Thiébaud.
I first met Rudloff and Heckenmayer at the Phare O Vins salon in Strasbourg in October. (Their friend the Alsace vigneron Pierre Groger had told me to look out for them that morning.) Amid their small, expertly crafted range of micro-cuvées, their 2023 “Baume” gamay stands out for its sublime marriage of rosiness and salinity. (See here for more on the 2023 “Baume.”) Even the couple’s honeys possess a surprising depth and persistence of flavor. I visited Rudloff in Frontenay just before the end of 2025. Rarely does one encounter, so early in a vigneron’s career, such a brilliantly-realized and uncompromising vision of patient, small-scale natural winemaking.
